The Weatherization and Waste/Air Grants position manages grants and sub-grantees involved in weatherizing homes and businesses across the state, and grant and planning activities related to energy, air quality, and waste reduction.

*Hourly $29.475 – $42.107

*Hiring classification dependent upon selected applicant's qualifications and experience

  • Supervise Weatherization, Energy, and Waste and Air Grants staff, including hiring, evaluations, assigning, scheduling and monitoring work.
  • Manage grants from EPA, DOE, HHS, USDA, state fee programs.  Manage grants given to sub-grantees, including service providers, private companies, and individuals.  
  • Develop, prepare, negotiate, and apply for grant applications, contracts, and work plans for energy/weatherization and waste/air grant programs.    Work with on-line application for grants and reporting.
  • Represent agency and present information at public meetings, inter-agency meetings, national workgroups, designated board meetings, or other venues as needed.
  • Manage section budget, approve payment of bills.
  • Coordinate activities with other agencies and interested groups/organizations.    Provide information and training to interested groups and individuals.
  • Review reports, correspondence, work plans, contracts, summaries, etc. developed by staff prior to publication or submittal. Assist with other energy and grant programs in the agency, as needed.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience, including financial or grant experience, that will enable an individual to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Master’s degree in life sciences, physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, chemistry, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, business, accounting or a related field plus 2 years experience or coursework in the related field preferred.

Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences, physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, chemistry, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, business, accounting or a related field plus 4 years of work experience or coursework in a related field

OTHER:  Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent transportation; Ability to travel overnight; Ability to work in Lincoln; Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

PREFERENCES:  Grant management or financial experience; supervisory experience.

Knowledge of:  energy sources, production, distribution and uses; state and federal energy programs; waste, litter, recycling, and air quality activities which would result in environmentally sound outcomes; grant management, both in managing grants awarded to the agency and grants given to applicants.

Skill in: communicating with individuals and groups with varying technical backgrounds to collect and relay information; listening to and understanding others; prioritizing workloads; managing various staff and section responsibilities; developing and managing federal and state grants; using analytical judgment to make decisions; public speaking and providing presentations.

Ability to: train, supervise and evaluate subordinate employees; ensure program compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinate program efforts with other divisions and governmental entities; interpret federal program guidelines; explain the purpose and methods of programs supervised.
