April 2022 Monthly Metrics

NDEE produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Accomplishments:
  • EPA approved NDEE’s request to remove an in-well aeration system from a portion of the Hastings Superfund site, which resulted in a cost savings of $18,600 per year.  Remediation continues in other portions of the site.
  • NDEE has begun a special study to evaluate neonicotinoid and other emerging pesticides in stream water and sediment at 10 sampling locations in the eastern half of the state.
  • Contractors who clean up and manage polluted sites under several programs now have the option to submit reports electronically.  With roughly 780 reports submitted each year on paper, the change to digital reports will save $60,000 per year in program costs and over 100 hours per year in processing time.
  • NDEE signed a $69.8 million CWSRF loan with Sarpy County and Cities Wastewater Agency to construct a unified wastewater treatment system for the county and the cities of Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Gretna and Springfield.  Sarpy County expects the system will allow 97,000 parcels to be developed.

Miscellaneous:
  • Continued dry conditions could quickly become an issue for drinking water systems.  NDEE staff will be monitoring for any water quality problems resulting from inadequate source water supplies and wildfire. Dry conditions also present an increased chance for in-state wildfires and smoke, so NDEE staff will monitor for wildfire and work with DHHS to issue air quality advisories as warranted.
