CITY OF CREIGHTON SOURCE WATER PROTECTION PROJECT – 2019

Overall goal of this project is to better understand and communicate the local geology and hydrology in the Creighton WHP area and use information to education the community and increase local participation in the Bazile project. Tasks include identifying cultivated ground with high potential of nitrate infiltration, summarize findings in a report, and hold a landowner workshop to increase participation in implementing BMPs and other incentives available through the Bazile project. Develop a local technical advisory committee to coordinate and increase participation in the Bazile project in Creighton's WHP area. Well abandonment efforts.

SECURING CLEAN WATER FOR THE FUTURE

The primary goal of the Project is to establish a locally-tailored WHP Plan for the City. There are several key components of plan development, mainly the vulnerability assessment to aid in understanding how nitrates travel to the aquifer. Furthermore, it will create opportunities to work with project partners to manage land use in these areas to reduce nitrate infiltration to the aquifer.
