AIRNow - Air Quality:
Current Conditions and Tomorrow's Forecast

The current and predicted Air Quality Index (AQI) for the City of Omaha are shown at the right.

The AQI is used for reporting daily air quality. It tells how clean or polluted the outdoor air is and what associated health effects might be of concern.

The AQI focuses on health effects that may be experienced within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air.
The AQI is calculated for each of the five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act:
  1. ground-level ozone,
  2. particle pollution (also known as particulate matter),
  3. carbon monoxide,
  4. sulfur dioxide, and
  5. nitrogen dioxide.

For more information on the AQI, click on the link at the far right.

To view the current and predicted air quality for the entire U.S., visit the AIRNow website at the link on the far right.

Currently, Omaha is the only city in Nebraska that is required to report the AQI. Reporting requirements are based on population.
