Site Summary:
This site located on the Southwest corner of 13th and Dakota Ave., and was discovered as a result of a tank closure conducted in June of 1990. The site came to the top of DEQ's backlog list and was activated in late 1991. During the backlog duration, the site was sold and became a used car dealership and auto service center. As this site passes the RBCA process for dissolved BETX, a free product cleanup will be all that is required by the Department. |

Site Specifications:
1. As you can see from the pictures, cars cover the entire site. DEQ made an agreement with the owner that when the PFP Contractor is ready to install a remedial system, he/she can request that all of the cars be moved to the Northeast corner of the intersection for a period of time not to exceed two weeks. For this service, the PFP Contractor will pay the owner a one time fee of $400.00. DEQ anticipates that the PFP Contractor will not require that much time to install a system, but two weeks were requested just to be on the safe side.
2. This site is probably not a candidate for overexcavation due to the confined space.
3. The property behind the former station is owned by the liquor store and bar next door. DEQ has not made contact with them, but they did allow monitor wells to be installed on their property during the investigation phase. You may wish to speak to them during your site visit if you feel you might need the extra space to park a remediation trailer. After DEQ's site visit we did not feel that would be necessary as the current owner is aware that some type of trailer would probably have to be parked on the North side of the building.
4. During your site visit, please let the property owner (Randy Neal) know that you are there. Randy also has a son that works there with the same name so there is a Randy Neal Sr. and Jr. working at the site.
5. As this site is located in town, there will be more utilities issues than have been seen in the past for Nebraska PFP sites.
6. Because this lot is newly paved, site restoration will be a consideration in the bid. For this site, DEQ made no specific statements as to how that restoration would be done. DEQ is recommending that the potential PFP Contractor speak with the owner concerning this issue, especially if you plan to do backhoe trenching across the lot. |
