June 2024 Monthly Metrics

NDEE produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Accomplishments
  • The agency opened a grant application period for its 2025 Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive, Litter Reduction and Recycling, and Scrap Tire programs beginning June 26 until 4 p.m. on Aug. 7, 2024. The grant term will be Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025. Grant decisions will be announced in December 2024. Competitive grant funding is anticipated to be $6 million for Litter grants and $5.5 million for Waste grants with a maximum amount up to $500,000 per application.

  • NDEE received approval from the Environmental Quality Council for the State Revolving Fund 2025 Intended Use Plan.

Misc.
  • The agency continues monitoring public beaches and issued the season's first health alert in June for Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). Samples taken at the lakes on alert measure above the threshold of 8 parts per billion (ppb) of total microcystin, which is a toxin released by certain strains of blue-green algae. When a health alert is issued, signs are posted to advise the public to use caution, and designated swimming beaches are closed during the alert. Recreational boating and fishing are permitted, but the public is advised to use caution and avoid exposure to the water, particularly avoiding any activity that could lead to swallowing the water. People can still use the public areas for camping, picnics and other outdoor activities.
