for NE Ecology Systems, Inc. Municipal Solid Waste Landfill
under consideration by the
Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy

PUBLIC NOTICE is given in accordance with Title 132 - Integrated Solid Waste Management Regulations, Chapter 2, §011, that the Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy (NDEE) has received an application to renew the permit of Valentine Area Solid Waste Agency Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, 39856 US Highway 20, Valentine, NE. After review of the permit application, a preliminary determination has been made to recommend renewal of the permit. The term of the permit shall be five years.

FACILITY DESCRIPTION. The permit allows the operation of an existing Municipal Solid Waste Landfill under Nebraska's solid waste management laws and regulations. The landfill shall receive household waste, alone or in combination with other types of wastes such as commercial solid waste, industrial waste, nonhazardous sludge, or conditionally exempt small quantity generator waste, and which is not a land application unit, surface impoundment, injection well, or waste pit.

FACILITY LOCATION. The property is located approximately 8 miles west of Geneva, Nebraska on Highway 41 and ½ mile south on Road 4 on the east side of the road. The Nebraska Ecology Systems, Inc. Municipal Solid Waste Landfill is the NW ¼ SW ¼ of Section 3, Township 6 North, Range 4 West in Cherry County, Nebraska.

OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT AND HEARING. The public may submit written comments and may also request a public hearing on the permitting decision. A request for a hearing must be made in writing and state the issues proposed for discussion and their relation to the proposed permit renewal. Public comments and hearing requests shall be made to: Daniel LeMaistre, Waste Permit Section Supervisor, Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy, P.O. Box 98922, Lincoln, NE 68509-8922.
The NDEE will make a final decision to renew or deny the permit based on the permit application, the compliance status of Valentine Area Solid Waste Agency Municipal Solid Waste Landfill, and public comment received. NDEE will notify the applicant and other interested persons.

COMMENT PERIOD. All comments or requests for a hearing must be postmarked by July 1, 2024.

Select “Public Records Search” at the bottom of the page, then “Public Records Search” again. A box will appear that needs the following information: for “Start Date” enter 08/08/23, for “End Date” enter May 30, 2024, for “DEQ Facility Number” enter 62748, for “DEQ Program ID” enter NE0120197, for “DEQ Program” enter IWM. Select “Search” and all the documents for that facility will appear. Use the “Index of Correspondence” to select the documents related to this public notice.
