New Employee The Onsite Unit is happy to announce Jon Hempel has joined the unit as a program specialist. Jon comes to us from the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, National Soil Survey Center. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge on soils.
Certification Renewal All current certifications will expire on December 31, 2015. Renewal information will be mailed out in early November.
Professional Development Hours Below is a list of current opportunities to obtain professional development hours if you need them for renewal. Remember, if you obtained your initial certification in 2014 or earlier you will need 12 professional development hours. If you obtained your initial certification in 2015, this year you will need 6 professional development hours for your first certification renewal. Thereafter you will be required to obtain 12 PDH in order to renew. You may carry over a maximum of 6 professional development hours in excess of the required into the next renewal period.

2016 Onsite Exam Schedule The Onsite Unit is working on setting up the 2016 exam dates. The first exam is scheduled for January 5, 2016 in Lincoln at the NDEE training center at 2217 South 8th, Suite 4. We will have another exam January 21, 2016 in Scottsbluff at our Field Office, 505A Broadway, Suite 200 that can accommodate 10 people. We will also offer an exam at the 2016 Convention in Kearney on February 11, 2016.
Advisory Committee Openings In 2016 there will be two openings for industry professionals on the Onsite Wastewater Advisory Committee. The advisory committee is made up of five industry professionals, two representatives of local health departments, a representative of the State Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure section, and two representatives from the University of Nebraska-one with experience in biological engineering and one with experience in soils and geology. The committee advises the Department on administration of Title 124-Rules and Regulations for the Design, Operation and Maintenance of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems. This is a voluntary commitment but members are reimbursed for their expenses. If you would like to serve on this committee and have a voice on the future of your industry, please let us know.
