Concept
Nonresidential buildings and facilities present considerable opportunities for saving energy, and in turn, saving businesses money while reducing air emissions. Through the ONE RED program, The Non-Residential Energy Efficiency Program (NREEP) will provide financial incentives for energy efficiency, electrification, and weatherization upgrades in industrial, commercial, agricultural, public, and nonprofit buildings and facilities. ONE RED will fund up to 50% of project costs.

Funding available: $30 million
Greenhouse gas reductions by 2030: 536,000 metric tons

This program will expand the reach of electrical energy efficiency programs already operated by Nebraska’s public utilities, as well as implement a new program of incentives to reduce natural gas use.

For electric projects, grant funds will be subawarded to the Nebraska Public Power District, Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, Omaha Public Power District, Lincoln Electric System, and other eligible electric cooperative power suppliers to expand their current electrical energy efficiency and electrification programs. Applicants would apply directly to participating electric utilities in their service territory.

For projects that reduce natural gas consumption, facilities will apply for funding directly to NDEE, which will create and administer the incentive program.

Eligibility
While program eligibility is dependent on the utility and its existing program, there are minimum project requirements:

The energy efficiency, electrification, and weatherization upgrades must be implemented in an industrial, commercial, agricultural, public, or nonprofit building.
· Projects must be located in Nebraska
· The applicant must be in compliance with all Nebraska environmental laws at its Nebraska locations
· For natural gas energy efficiency projects, the project assessment must demonstrate a simple payback period greater than two years absent funding through the grant
· Energy audits will be required for larger projects to identify cost-effectiveness of different upgrades.
Additional requirements will be dependent upon the particular incentive/rebate program.

How to apply
Application details about this grant will be made available as the program is developed. Thanks for your patience!
